Revision Tips for Students Before an Exam

Three times a year, students spend sleepless nights revising for upcoming exams. No matter how hard they try, some students don’t do as well as their peers. While we’re sure every student is already doing their best, there is no harm in trying something new. If you’re struggling with revision, we’re here to help. We’ve come up with some handy revision tips for students that will help you ace your exams!

Revision Tips for Students Before an Exam

  1. Write It Down
Make writing things down a habit. The more you write, the more likely you are to remember. Before every exam, think about the points you need to memorise. Then, write them all down a few times. You can write on small scraps of rough paper, in your journal, or even type on your computer. We recommend making notes by hand, as you’re more likely to remember what you’ve written. Plus, if you stay off your computer, there’s no chance of your data getting hacked or accidentally deleted. After all, you need to follow some internet safety guidelines while learning online.
  2. Sticky Reminders
Sticky NotesIn the weeks leading up to an exam, you can place notes on small cards around your house. Stick a cue card to your bathroom mirror, keep a few near your work station, or stick one on your favourite mug. The notes could include quotes you need to memorise or formulae you want to remember. As you see the same words over and over, the content will sink in.
  3. Try the Whiteboard Memory Test
After revising everything, try the whiteboard memory test. You don’t necessarily need a board for this, even two sheets of paper will do. Start by writing down everything you need to revise. Look at it for a brief second and then erase it. If you’re using paper, cover it with another sheet. Now, rewrite everything from memory. Make sure you take a picture of the board before you erase it so you can compare what you’ve written with the original.
  4. Organise Your Notes
NotesFirst, you should make it a habit of typing up or writing down your notes after every class. Given the recency effect, you’re more likely to remember what the teacher mentioned right after a lesson. Make sure you don’t disturb your peers while making notes. It’s one of the online learning etiquettes students should follow. Make sure you include all the references and helpful hints the teacher gave. During revision, these small tips will become vital. Once your notes are ready, you need to file and organise them properly. Any file with easy-to-locate dividers will help you keep all your work in one place. It will also make revising infinitely easier.
  5. Treat Yourself
The best way to stay motivated is by giving yourself rewards. Promise yourself a 5-minute break or a piece of chocolate after every chapter. The treats will help you work faster and better.
