A popular stream among most students after their Class 10, Commerce offers many career options. This is one sole reason why students choose to tread this path after their basic schooling. A big advantage is that Commerce students can choose Commerce or Arts courses after their Class 12 as well. Yet, many students are puzzled about the course they must enroll in. Bachelor of Commerce or BCom

One of the most loved and popular courses is the Bachelor of Commerce or BCom course. This is a general course and prepares you with excellent managerial skills. It includes subjects such as Accountancy, Cost Accounting, Taxation, Financial Accounting, Business Economics, Business Management, Company Law, and others.

Bachelor of Commerce or BCom (Honours)

If you wish to pursue a more specialised programme that includes Maths as well, then BCom (Honours) is for you. This course offers in-depth knowledge about subjects such as Accounts, Economics, Statistics, Finance, and Marketing.

BCom – Accounting and Taxation

BCom – Statistics

Statistics concerns everything to do with numerical data. Hence, it includes topics such as Applied Information Economics, Business Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Energy Statistics, Engineering Statistics, Social Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Analysis, Demography, and others.

BCom – Management Accounting and International Finance

Another course to do after 12th Commerce is BCom in Management Accounting and International Finance. You can opt for this if you wish to do international business at the postgraduate level. This course offers a global certification along with exposure to the syllabus of US CMA (Certified Management Accountant) and their usual subjects in Commerce.

BCom – Applied Economics

This course covers theoretical knowledge and the different aspects of this subject. You will learn the various methods in which you can use economics to analyse problems and offer solutions. It includes Micro and Macroeconomics, Public Economics, Indian Economic Development, and others.

BBA – Bachelor of Business Administration

BBA LLB – Bachelor of Business Administration & Bachelor of Legislative Law

Now, this is a dual degree programme spanning over five years and also a popular choice among Commerce students. It covers the nitty-gritty of Law and Business Administration in-depth. Thus, it includes subjects such as Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, Torts, Jurisprudence, Business and Managerial Communication, and others.

Besides the above, there are some courses that prepare students for competitive exams as well. These can be pursued by those who wish to include Maths in the course.

Chartered Accountancy

As we know, this is a popular career option, but the CA Foundation course is one of the toughest ones. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducts all the exams for this course. It takes around 4.5 to 5 years to complete the CA course after Class 12. Hence, if you choose to pursue your CA, taking Maths will only strengthen your basics as it is a compulsory subject in the CA Foundation programme.

Company SecretaryCompany Secretary

Another coveted professional course is Company Secretary, which too, is a tough one. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) conducts the CSEET exam for CS four times a year. It also provides training for the same. The course prepares you to handle all legal and taxation aspects of a company. With three competitive levels to complete, this is indeed a challenging programme, but a very popular one.

Cost and Management Accountant

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) offers this professional programme, which is similar to the above two. There are three levels of this course, and you must clear all to complete the programme. This programme is all about collecting and analysing data and applying that knowledge to deduce the costs of all business activities for a company. With 20 subjects, this course is a difficult one, but a highly responsible one as well as it involves overall cost management.

There are several regular and professional courses that you can take up if you wish to continue with Maths after your Class 12. These, no doubt, prepare for a lucrative career; but it all boils down to your passion and interest.
