The CLAT exam would be a 2-hour computer-based test, having 150 multiple - choice questions, with each of the questions carrying 1 mark each. For every wrong answer, the student would lose 0.25 marks.

The CLAT Question paper comprises of the following 5 subjects:

  • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge
  • Legal Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Quantitative Techniques

English

The English section of the CLAT exam would be testing the Language Skills of the student. This section would consist of passages of about 450 words and these passages would be from contemporary history or topics from fiction and non - fiction books and so on.

Every passage would be followed by a series of questions which tests the comprehension skills of the students along with that it tests the application of Grammar and linguistics.

This section would have passages mainly from the following disciplines, i.e.

The questions based on the passage would be testing the awareness of the student about the current affairs and incidents and important notifications about the same.

Legal Reasoning

This section, like other sections, would have passages up to 450 words in it and would have been picked based on scenarios which may involve legal scenarios, policies regarding policy matters and moral questions. Having said that, the complete knowledge of Law and Legal Matters is not essential.

The passages would have questions which are asked mainly based on the following, i.e.

  • Student needs to recognize an argument, its premises and conclusions;
  • Student needs to critically read and identify the arguments set out in the passage;
  • Student needs to critically analyse patterns of reasoning, and assess how the conclusions can be drawn which may depend on particular premises or evidence;
  • Student needs to infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations;
  • Student needs to draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments.
